We install Reyee, Ruijie, UniFi and Cisco managed PoE switches across Bath, sized to the actual PoE budget the site needs. Power-and-data on a single Cat6a cable for every Wi-Fi AP, IP camera, phone and access reader on the network.
Bath is a UNESCO city of Georgian townhouses, modern offices around Bath Riverside, and a busy university campus. Whole-site PoE and cabinet design has to deal with thick stone walls, listed-building fixings, and tight historic comms cupboards.
Yes. Bath's Georgian and Victorian conversions need a different AP layout to a modern open-plan office — typically more APs at lower power, ceiling-mounted on each floor, with foil-backed plaster mapped during the survey. We do a spectrum analyser walk-round before quoting so the layout is sized to the actual building, not a guess.
PoE (802.3af) gives 15.4 W per port — enough for a basic AP or VoIP phone. PoE+ (802.3at) gives 30 W — standard for most commercial APs, IP cameras and access-control kit. PoE++ (802.3bt) gives up to 90 W — needed for multi-radio outdoor APs, heated cameras, or PTZ domes. We size the switch to your kit list.
For commercial sites we always install managed switches — you need VLANs to separate staff / guest / CCTV / IoT traffic, and you need the management interface for fault-finding. Reyee RG-NBS3100 series is our default (24-port and 48-port PoE+ variants, lifetime cloud management free, no licence renewal). Unmanaged is fine for a domestic AP — not for a commercial install.
